Ey guys,

Yesterday I was overclocking my GPU and wanted to play online, tho I could not load the servers. It says "retrieving server information (800)" and then after ~10 seconds first few servers start to load but max. 8 servers load. No idea why, I already got rid of my overclock, did not work. Clean mbw without steam did not work, fixing things in my settings did not work. The only thing that worked was using a VPN, so could it be that one of my ports is closed or smt? Tho I could load rocketleague servers.

I have seen this multiple times, but never saw a proper fix that works for me. So anyone has another idea? :(

rlg_config

Spoiler

There are some errors in the log file but those should not affect multiplayer, they are in the clean mbw and steam one.

I'm a bit out of options......

Add warband to firewall exceptions.

doesn't work, neither does it with laptop. I will try to set the firewall off totally, you mean windows firewall right? Or in the modem?

Firewall off doesnt work either.

I can connect to the servers that do load, but that are mostly other modules and non-populated servers.

I did found a way to bypass it, while not playing with VPN. Tho it is not a fix of the problem, it still remains.

start VPN-->Load all servers-->turn off vpn--->join---->play---->profit

If you have access to router settings, disabling IP Flood Detection might help. Another way to go is to lower the value in max_number_of_connections in rgl_config.txt by half or so in your Warband setting. Alternatively, try to reset your router/switch/whatever. Either physically – pull the plug out of the socket at least for 10 seconds, or run cmd (in administrator mode), type "netsh winsock reset" (this resets the Windows network access service – use Google for inf.), hit enter, restart your PC. Another option is to change your DNS to Google DNS for example. Be sure to create a system restore point first. Be safe. Good luck.

other options:

check antivirus too since some include some firewall settings inside, if you see some about M&B or warband, delete it, and restart PC and start game again, also do same with firewall/s (windows + router + other you can have)

if doesn't work, try uninstalling them (antivirus and so, since sometimes only by off security's soft doesn't work), try again without it (to check) and if works, then install all soft again

lower the value in max_number_of_connections in rgl_config.txt by half or so in your Warband setting.

Hi, do you know what should be it ok to me (or in general), or how works this? I have 16 in mine rgl_config.txt, and my net is 30 Mb up+down fibre, ping ~50/60 but I have hard lags, can be improved changing this setting?

As far as I know, the max_number_of_connections option in rgl_config.txt was introduced with the 1.110 patch back in the 2010. According to the developers "Players who have difficulty receiving server list from internet can lower the default value (64) to 20 or so." This is the origin of the advice I mentioned above. Especially, if Horatius has set that value to 1000. In these days, default value is supposed to be 16—like you have.

To be honest, I do not know exactly how this variable affects the connection – i.e. what a certain value represents and how is calculated – since there is no known documentation but it should be more or less associated with the amount of packet loss rather than with the latency itself. One might say: the higher the value is, the more servers (with higher ping) are taken into an account when one is establishing a connection but I am not sure if this is how it works because of missing documentation…

The DNS change and cmd command are only on my pic right? As I have connection problems on my laptop too so that would not help, will try somethings with my modem.

Yes, but you can change the DNS directly on your router too. If the problem persists on both of your machines, it probably has something to do with you connection/router/whatever. Maybe, try some basic diagnostics with cmd as well to check your ping, packet loss and so on. Just run the ping google.com -t command in administrator mode for a few minutes (interrupt by using ctr+c). Good luck.

@Horatius have you tried to reset (not only restart by on/off) the router? doing this should solve any troubles (think)

to reset it, looking around for a little "hole" (like cd-player units have to open door when are locked) which have reset's button inside, then insert some there and hold it pressing for few seconds.

ps: doing this your router change all settings as defaults when it comes, so if you changed some make a backup first.

Planning on doing that but I'm not the only one living here :S, and we have a quite complicated setting setup. And totally reset it and use the backup settings won't do much I think.

Did that in 30 seconds my ping goes to 300 and each 2-3 minutes 5 packages after each other failed. I will see what I can do with the DNS.

reset option: I mean reset router for you can test if it solve your troubles (I'm almost sure will do),

and by making a backcopy before, is for you can restore all as it was before do the reset (don't loose any of actual settings for all who are using router), then you could check/compare changes after+before to see where is failing

Yes I have this option (online on ettings), but we have rather a complicated wifi setup which I don't want to disturb until I get a goddam new ISP (we onl have 1 ISP in this area...... glassfiber will be here within 1 1/2 yr (hopefully))

I have 30 Mb up+down fibre (pretty enough to me), using cable too, but when other/s using same net are watching video at full-HD...

it "eat" a big piece of cake :D so if you are few using same net, even if have 150, you will need that 500 soon :D

good luck ;)
