Yes, players can make the difference. But that was on the good days when there were better players. It's hard to see the players do teamwork. Nords vs sarranids ends in nords victory 90% of times. I can't understand why taleworlds never balanced some of the factions. However now is too late and it's sure they won't do.

I'd like to see limited lives for attackers when they are winning against the defenders, when they are winning then nothing happens. If you don't want to give them limited lives then you could give them longer respawn time.

when I'm online, sometimes (only a few to be sincere, and mostly in events) I've done it to try balance the "situation" for teams, like part of mine admin job (changed respawn for attackers from 5 seconds to 10, by example)
